My name is Patti Miller and I have always loved horses right from the time I was old enough to pronounce the word! Marching right along with that was my love for art and it just seemed natural to combine the two, so that my early years were taken up consuming vast quantities
of drawing paper drawing horses.
After college and a couple of failed relationships I settled into my present 25 year marriage with my husband, Don. Ten years into our marriage we were blessed with a daughter, Sarah. During our first year of marriage my husband bought me my first horse, and a dream was realized! I spent the next ten years riding every day and competing in some small local events and dressage shows. Also during this time I quit my regular job to take the lower paying but infinitely more satisfying job of groom at a local barn in the Middleburg VA area. My life became saturated with horses and I loved it! Life, however, is about growing and changing and when Sarah came along, my focus changed and I put all my energies into trying to be the best mom I could be. With all that was going on, my artistic life was put on hold for much of the time. (if you don't count finger painting and macaroni collages)! Although one interesting thing did happen during this time. I picked up the hobby of painting ceramics so that my art made the leap from flat work to 3-D. I think it was a good preparation for painting model horses! I found the model horse hobby in 1996 and was truly amazed by the customizing of the plastic horses. In that same year we attended Breyerfest for the first time and I was able to join the painting class with Darian Buckles. This was all that I needed to get my creative side up and running again! Since then I have taken different clinics including an airbrushing seminar with Dawn Deale and an anatomy clinic with Lynn Fraley. My real love is customizing the plastics and I get a kick out of seeing them morph into new, one of a kind creations. I enjoy airbrushing them in acrylics. I find though that more and more my finish work will include hand layering tiny little detailing over the entire piece, right down to the individually painted hairs. I still have my original real horse. He is now 37 years old and joined by two companions, so real horses are still very much a part of my life. For the time being the two loves, art and horses have been able to combine in a very satisfying way. I hope you enjoy the website and please don't hesitate to email me if you have any questions or comments! . Patti |
